The Lake

Fishermens Retreat is a 5-acre exclusive fishing lake in rural Limousin for up to 4 anglers.

The Lake

The lake at the Fishermen’s Retreat is 5 acres acres and is tree lined on one bank and the other bank is set up for the perfect social venue for up to 4 anglers. It has a constant flow all year round and depths range mostly from 3 to 4 foot around the margins then gradually sloping down to 13 foot along the dam wall. The lake is spring fed from it’s own springs that enter below the lake and to the side of the lake. It also has a river source that runs through the top of the lake all the way through the middle of the lake, this is an interesting feature to try and find, this water exits the lake through the Monk drain system in the middle of the dam wall or the overflow depending on the time of year.

In, 2017 we underwent the Big Dig and improved so many of the lakes features. We had a gravel bar that ran along the far margin and we found that the fish would use this as a constant route during the day to get from the shallows to the deep. We have changed this into a plateau area and removed all the snags that ran along the bar. The removal of the snags will help increase the catch rate of the fish.

The bay area had all the silt removed until it was a nice clean clay basin with depths ranging to 3-5 foot.

We have a shallow silty area in the top shallow corner of the lake fishable where we left the silt holes created by the carp feeding. This is a great rewarding feature if you can get your presentation right.

Although the lake is clear we do not suffer with weed throughout the year. We do not have any nuisance Poisson Chat and the Crayfish are almost non existent and have never caused an issue.

In 2018, we also planted 6 areas of Brandy bottle lillies. We planted them with giving each swim a feature in mind. This will be a great holding area for the fish

Good Fish, Good friends, Good Times!!

The Swims

The Lake had a lot of landscaping done on the summer of 2014 and a lot of thought and planning went into the building of the swims. 5 swims were carved out of their surroundings and have been left for 1 year to settle before the final stage of manicuring the swims in the summer of 2015. The lake can accommodate 4 fishermen at one time and is built around the ideology of social fishing. If you were fishing swim 1 or swim 5 you will comfortable spending time in the Gazebo area, some groups might prefer to sit in their bivvies but we find most groups like to whittle away the down time around the Gazebo where you can still watch for any movements the whole lake.

In the winter of 2017/2018 the landscaping was taken to the next level with a larger area to enjoy behind the swims and gazebo. A fence around the perimeter of the swims so you can relax about children and pets from wandering. The landscaping was also done to expose the hidden beauty of the rows of Pine trees that surround the lake and for better water management. We planted 10 willow trees around the swims, which in 5 years will really start to mature and then over 200 laurel bushes to really give that enclosed feeling.

There is a BBQ area covered by a Gazebo that has a gas BBQ, gas hob, gas fridge, sink, 8 seater picnic bench, solar powered lights and charging points.

We have a composting toilet beside the Gazebo, a recycling area and also a games area where you can play table tennis, Boules or Darts.
